The most powerful asset at Stellantis is the creativity and ingenuity of our people. Their ideas, supported globally by a team of talented engineers and leaders, are propelling Stellantis to the goal of clean, safe and affordable mobility.
Even small ideas can have a big impact. For example, fully electric vehicle drivers in Europe carry their own charge cord, which takes up space in the cargo area and can often be a messy, clumsy experience for the customer. A team inside Stellantis saw this as a problem to solve. Their solution? An automatically retracting cable system mounted under the vehicle hood.
The retracting cable system makes its debut in late 2024 on the all-new Fiat Grande Panda. And the team behind the invention was named a 2024 winner of the annual Stellantis Genius Award.
The Genius Award enables anyone in Stellantis to submit an idea for consideration for development and production.
Any idea, big or small, is eligible. Ideas can span the range from software controls and artificial intelligence to manufacturing and safety improvements to new features for vehicles.
Each month, expert jurors in Stellantis management evaluate 10 or more submissions to select a Genius of the Month winner. Annually, the monthly winners compete to be named Genius of the Year.
Every idea, even if not selected as a Genius winner, can lead to patents for both the inventors and Stellantis, building the trove of innovation inside the company that sets the foundation for world-class products for our 14 iconic brands around the world.
“There is no magic to innovation, just creative, open-minded people who see a challenge and have the desire to find an answer,” said Ned Curic, Stellantis Chief Engineering and Technology Officer. “Innovation is all around us. When we harness it to make our products and services better, our customers win.”
