Supplier Involvement

Suppliers are also part of our approach to reducing emissions, and a key component of this effort is active engagement with suppliers and the adoption of new technologies for the production of batteries.

Our strategy consists in selecting suppliers according to environmental criteria such as ISO 14001 certification, or their ability to develop products using recycled, natural-origin or bio-sourced materials from renewable resources. These green materials are a key consideration in both supplier selection and engineering design for parts specifications, supporting Stellantis’ goal for new vehicles launched globally to contain an average of 35% green materials by 2030. We have also developed research and innovation recommendations for suppliers to encourage the development of products with a lower environmental impact.

Major suppliers are also asked to demonstrate their ability to support Stellantis’ carbon net zero roadmap.

In addition, a list of prioritized components and materials representing the majority of the carbon footprint of a vehicle’s supply chain emissions are tracked and followed by Stellantis engineering and purchasing teams to enable optimization of the carbon footprint performance of our suppliers.

Optimized Logistics

Every day, millions of parts are delivered to Stellantis facilities around the world to produce our vehicles. Our logistics are handled by a variety of external operators, depending on the origin and destination of these goods.

Stellantis has adopted internal logistics guidelines that provide direction on how to reduce the associated carbon footprint, including methodologies to reduce the impact of freight and vehicle movement. Our approach focuses on the optimization of logistics flows – including network, mode and capacity – to improve performance and minimize impacts on the environment by exploring and prioritizing alternatives to road transport and by requesting that suppliers use recyclable or reusable packaging and raw materials for new vehicle projects.
